SoCalXJ is a group of Jeep Cherokee(XJ) enthusiasts in the Southern California region. We run trails, swap tech and assist each other in
modifications of all kinds. This site was developed as a way to share
our interests with other XJ owners in the Southern California area.
blowsand writes "In case members were not aware, Operation Desert Fun 9 will be taking place on October 14-15 at the new Truckhaven 4x4 training area off the S-22 out by Salton City. 9th Annual Fiesta Island BBQ Picnic Potluck Sunday, August 21st
This is the 9th year in a row we drive are XJs to the beach during the summer time for some good food, and water play (Jet ski's boats kayaks sandcastles, fire pits, etc). Bring some food for yourself, and some to share if you like. We can use some tables if you have them.
Feel free to drive your daily drivers, RVs, tow rigs, Tjs, whatever, if that's all you have, driving/owning an XJ is not required, it's just encouraged. You don't have to be a member of SoCalXJ.com either.
Saturday morning will be a main run day. Saturday the 30th is THE big day for runs. If you can only make it for a day, come on Saturday morning. Superstition Mountain has a lot to offer in the way of trails for all levels of experience and vehicles. From mild to wild. Stock to heavily modified, bring it out. Or just come to camp and have a good AND safe time. XJ or not. We will be there having a good time as usual.
Cal-4-Wheel safety requirements MUST be adhered to. Especially the ones about seat belts/tops/tow points/battery hold downs/etc. Please read and prepare carefully. These are for your own safety, the safety of your vehicle, as well as others around you. Even if you are planning on coming out and not running trails but just exploring about on your own, if you don't have these, DO NOT try it…
Roll bar or factory installed hard top.
Emergency brake, parking brake, line-lock or other redundant braking system.
Tow strap or rope (recommend rated at 2 times the vehicle weight).
First aid kit.
Jack capable of lifting the vehicle & tools to change tire.
Spare tire within 3 inches diameter of other tires, or, for tires 37" or larger, run-flats or tools to repair/reinflate tire.
Fire extinguisher with gauge indicating good/full, appropriately stored.
Seat belts for all vehicle occupants.
Antennas must be rigid or restrained in a manner to prevent injuries.
Adequate attachment points front and rear, i.e. tow hooks, receiver, etc. Tow balls are not permitted.
Directions to camp site: 1. Take 8 east out of San Diego, Head towards El Centro. Superstition is just west of El Centro. 2. Exit Dunaway 3. Dunaway, exit off of the 8 go north 1.5 miles 4. Turn right onto EVAN HUGHES go east 4.3 miles 5. Turn left onto HUFF go north approx 6.4 miles 6. Turn left onto WHEELER ROAD 32 52.891 N 115 43.124 W 7. Wheeler road starts out paved then turns to a dirt road. Go West 4.15 miles 8. Turn right on an unmarked dirt trail. 32 53.667 N 115 46.996 W go .5 miles 9. Trail will "Y" in a wash like area and split a few ways, stay left! 32 54.075 N 115 46.851 W at this point you are .75 miles from camp. 10. ~1.25 miles from the right onto the dirt trail until you hit camp, again, stay to the left.
RVs and trailers have been to this spot before, and there will be many large class A and etc vehicles there. The mileages listed should be fairly accurate.
Bring your Jeep, boat, rv or lawnchair. Barbecue, share food, eat and stare at Jeeps. Sorry no trail runs here. Come out a meet the SoCalXJ group!

Bring firewood, bikes, frisbees, kids, friends, friendly dogs, food, umbrellas, EZ-Up canopies, suntan lotion, beach toys, water toys including boats and jet skis, and a willingness to come out and enjoy the day. You do NOT have to show up in an XJ, but it looks really cool when they're all lined up!
